Backing Black Belonging: When Words Meet Music

  • Destination Sistrunk Cultural Center 1033 Northwest 6th Street Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33311 (map)

ABOUT THE EVENT:

Hued Songs presents: Backing Black Belonging, a recurring series featuring song, spoken word, live music, and discussion from our residency at The Circuit in the historic Sistrunk Neighborhood.

Join us for our kickoff concert featuring an incredible lineup of South Florida poets, musicians, and vocalists as we explore the beautiful dance between sound and words. Each spoken word artist will have their pieces paired with a different set of musicians and vocalists to morph and shape new and existing works into magic. Grab an upgraded ticket to enjoy wine and snacks throughout the night, included in the cost of the ticket.

Backing Black Belonging serves as a vehicle to embed Black music and BIPOC artists within and across the community to foster belonging, empathy, and joy for all audiences .

The Creative Team for our September performance:

  • Arsimmer McCoy | Poet & Creative Producer

  • King Friday | Musical Director

  • Kunya Rowley | Hued Songs Executive Artistic Director

Artist Line-up coming soon.

This concert and series is made possible through the generous support of The Broward County Cultural Division, with additional support from The Community Foundation of Broward.
